Nunda Township Board Replaces Trustee Ed Dvorak with Losing Candidate for Assessor

Long-time public servant Ed Dvorak retired as a Nunda Township Trustee late last year.

That left four members on the Township Board

Supervisor Lee Jennings and his ally Trustee Karen Tynis wanted to appoint Justin Franzke to the vacancy.

Franzke ran for Township Assessor, but lost to appointed incumbent Mark Dzemske.

The two remaining Board members, brothers Rob and Tim Parrish favored appointing Mike Shorten, the man who ran fifth for Trustee in last spring’s Nunda Township elections.

When there is a tie on a township board, the Clerk breaks it.

Clerk Joni Smith, who ran unopposed and previously served as a Township Trustee, cast her vote for Franzke, so he won Dvorak’s seat.
